Two hundred and twenty  kilometers from Cairo is Alexandria, known as the pearl of the Mediterranean. It was there that Cleopatra met Caesar, was crowned, loved Anthony and tragically died. Sights include the impressive Greco-Roman Museum and Roman Theatre, Fort Qaitbay – site of Pharos’s Lighthouse, Pompeii’s Pillar, the Catacombs and the great Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
